I used to ride buses
Past abandoned steel mills
Like the skeletons of dinosaurs
Rusting in the sun
To jobs where I’d raise
Funds to save animals
So that hunters would have
Something to kill
Then at night I’d linger
In the shadows of nightclubs
To watch dancing women
Exorcise their ghosts
Till I left and walked home
To my two room apartment
Beneath stars that never
Seemed so far away
