In a kingdom full of eucalypts
eagerly I looked for the vines
for the hickories beyond blooming
for the dogwoods twixt the pines
but the wild grapes had all gone barren
all I found was a handful of hardened blackberries
took home what I could not chew
only this and a sagging bayberry.
